Learning About the Fundamental Counting Principle and Working on Our Next MCAS Strand

Home Nugget #19
Assigned on Friday April 9, 2010
Due on Monday April 12, 2010

Tonight's home nugget is a continuation of what students have just begun to explore, the arena of statistics. While lesson 12-1 was designed to provoke thought about drawing samples from populations for the purpose of data collection and analysis, lesson 12-2 instigates reasoning related to figuring out total outcomes using the fundamental counting principle. Again, students should focus on core themes and check their odd-numbered solutions in the back of their books for validation of what they believe to be true.

Read pages 650 to 652 for understanding. Then solve questions 1 - 20 on pages 653.

Please be reminded that while students are being asked to learn the content independently, as the classroom teacher, it continues to be my role to field all questions and queries that students will invariably have. However, it is up to the students to initiate these conversations.
