First Day of the Second Term!

Much of today's class discussion revolved around expectations for the 2nd term and the standards we need to meet as a collective body of learners. Some of these themes/items included:

a. A need to show greater urgency in our class interactions in terms of maximizing our use of time and resources. I often relate to students that I want them to have a greater sense of immediacy and assertiveness than I do as a teacher. There has to be a sense of ownership for what we do in the classroom.
b. Facing adversity head-on and wanting to engage in rigorous topics.
c. A greater sense of collegiality. Students must be willing to work with one another in and out of the classroom to make sense of content. There is nothing to be gained by having only a select group of students be academically successful; we want all students to be empowered.
d. A focus on basic items like exemplary home nuggets with complete headings and overwhelming evidence of the thought process for problems.
e. A greater commitment to nightly Cornell Notes and two sections in particular: key terms/ideas and the reflection piece.
