Graphing Inequalities in Two Variables
Students spent yesterday and today figuring out why two variables might be needed in writing an inequality and progressed to making several attempts at graphing the inequalities on coordinate grids.
There was a great deal of discussion surrounding whether graphing inequalities in this category is just like graphing linear equations or whether subtle differences exist. Two primary word problems were used to get students to identify what 'regions' of a graph should be shaded in relative to the boundary line that is drawn. Students noticed that a boundary divides their coordinate grid into two half-planes.
Tonight's challenge is to further sort out how to graph inequalities in two variables and make reasonable decisions regarding where answers can be found.

Happy Inauguration Day!
In staying true to today's theme of progress, students will be afforded a lesson that is meant to target lingering issues that I have identified in the course of the last two weeks through a combination of formal and informal assessments.
